The visitors won 8-3 which was harsh on the City teenagers who, while never threating to stifle Beeston’s slick passing game, created many chances themselves despite limited possession.

The tone was set early on with Beeston scoring in the second minute from their first attack. It was soon 2-0 and although Peter Taylor pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, the visitors always looked likely to pull away.

And so it proved. It was 5-1 at the break with Taylor and Arthur Franklin scoring for City in the second-half.

Franklin impressed with his powerful right-sided running, while skipper Nicky Reddy showed some silky touches in the centre of midfield.

City of Peterborough Under 16 girls won their National Cup tie against St Ives 7-1 at Bretton Gate. Phoebe Ashby (2), Ellie Bolsover (2), Libby Smith (2) and Georgie Richardson scored their goals.
