MATCH REPORT: City of Peterborough Ladies celebrate in style

City of Peterborough Ladies completed a superb season in East Division One North in fantastic fashion yesterday (March 25).

City have won promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history and they ended their campaign with a 5-2 win over Cambridge University seconds at Bretton Gate.

That made it 16 wins from 22 games for a team some expected to struggle at Division One level. Instead a great team spirit, impressive organisation and a terrific work ethic ensured they finished just two points behind champions Cambridge City seconds.

city really came on strong in the second half of the season when the pressure was at its greatest. Yesterday’s win was a ninth in their final 10 games and the other was drawn.

Anna Faux opened the scoring for City with Robyn Gribble making it 2-0 before the students pulled a goal back just before half time.

City dominated the secon period with Jeorgia Carr, Tierney Augustine and Emma Faux netting before a late University consolation.

City of Peterborough’s men lost their do or die East Premier A Division battle at Old Loughtonians 3-1 yesterday.

Old Loughts have clinched the title and the one National League place, while City are destined to finish third barring an unlikely margin of victory in their final match against Harleston Magpies next weekend (April 1).
