MARTIAL ARTS: Proud day for the Murcott School of Tae Kwon Do

It was another proud day for top local martial arts instructor Annabel Murcott, a 7th Dan World Master, when nine of her students travelled to Bristol for a black belt grading.

They joined around 600 other students at the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB) headquarters to grade in front of four 8th Dan Masters and the chairman of the TAGB, 9th Dan Grand Master David Oliver.

Eight students were successful and Murcott said: “It’s always a very proud moment when any student passes their grade, especially when you know how hard some have had to work at it.

People think that just because you put in the time you will pass, but on the day you have to put it all together out there in front of the masters all on your own. Not everyone makes it on the day and we did have one that didn’t get the promotion this time. But they will come back stronger having learned from their mistakes and go again in October.”

The next challenges on the horizon for the Annabel Murcott School of Tae Kwon Do students are the Welsh Championships in Cardiff at the end of the month, followed by the largest martial arts event to be held in Europe, the Tae kwon Do World Championships at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on July 16 and 17. This two-day event has attracted the best competitors from 32 countries.

Murcott’s students are in training and will be hoping to bring back some medals for their club and for Great Britain.
