World Championship wins for Peterborough kickboxers

Two Peterborough kickboxers are flying back from Jamaica today (September 17) as world champions.

Robert Taylor, who runs the TASK martial arts club, and Kyle Findley, who belongs to the Peterborough Freestyle Club, successfully retained their titles at the ISKA (International Sport Kickboxing Association) World Championships in Montego Bay.

It was an eighth world title win for Taylor, the reigning Peterborough Telegraph Sportsman of the Year, and a sixth world crown for Findley, who is the son of former world karate champion Clifton Findley.

Findley Senior was the UK team manager and proudly saw his squad finish top of the medals table with 49 gold medals, well clear of runners-up America.

Also in the UK team were four of Taylor’s students - Taylor Popat-Evans (12), Braydon Popat-Evans (13) and European champions Jazmyn Popat-Evans (15) and Grant Brown (25).

Taylor Popat-Evans who won two medals, a silver and a bronze, having entered two different disciplines, while Braydon Popat-Evans won a silver medal in his cadet weight class and Grant Brown a silver medal in the men’s middleweight section.

The championships were held over three days and were attended by former world heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis.
