Triathlon - PACTRAC trio off to the World Championships in Chicago

Peterborough Triathlon Club (PACTRAC) picked up three medals at the British Sprint Championships at the weekend.

And leading the way with a gold at the Nice-Tri Triathlon at St Neots was their super veteran Georgina Jennings.

Despite suffering two punctures, she battled away gallantly to finish first in the 70-74 age group.

She completed the course of a 750m swim in the River Ouse, a 15-mile bike ride and a three-mile run in 2hrs 14mins 30secs.

Simon Hoppe and Antony Brown were both bronze medal winners.

Hoppe, who finished 60th overall out of a field of 900 competitors, was third in the men’s 45-49 age group in 1:09:31 and was just 10 seconds behind the winner in his age group.

Brown was third in the 55-59 age group in 1:12:38.

The event was also a qualifying race for both the European Championships in Lisbon next year and the World Championships in Chicago this year and all three qualified at the first attempt with two more qualifying races to go.

PACTRAC’s Paul Lunn tackled the Thomas Cook 70.3 Half-Ironman in Majorca on Saturday and despite suffering with a hip injury he completed the course of a 1.2 mile sea swim, a 56-mile bike ride in the mountains and a 13.1 mile run in 4:39:17.

That gave him 100th place overall and ninth in his age group.

In the West Pinchbeck Novice Duathlon last week, PACTRAC’s Rob Stokes pitted himself against son Liam. Liam was third in 45:41 and Rob ninth in 49:39

This week Liam won the Basildon Aquathon over the short distances of a 200m swim and a 1.5-mile run on the running trackin 12:24.

Three PACTRAC juniors competed in a Duathlon at Prestwold, over varying distances.

Results: TS2 - 30th Joe Garner 21:35. TS3 - 37th Sam Garner 29:58. Youth - 12th Jonathan Oakey 46:38.

The Monster Triathlon company staged two triathlons - a Half-Ironman (Mojo) and a standard triathlon (Mojito) - in Peterborough on Sunday.

The Mojo involved a 1.2-mile swim in the Peterborough City Rowing Club lake, a 51-mile bike ride around Barnack and Ailsworth and a 12.5-mile run. The Mojito course consisted of a 1500m swim, a 24-mile bike ride and a 6.25-mile run.

The Mojo winner was Martyn Edwards from One Triathlon/Nutrition/ Xterra in 4:01:476 while the Mojito victor was James Travers from BadTri in 1:58:43.

PACTRAC’s Paul Jephcott was second in his age group in the Mojo. He is representing GB at the distance at the European Championships in Rimini, Italy, on May 24.
