Shooting star Matt Skelhon from Stilton secured gold by the narrowest of margins on Tuesday on the second da y of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Shooting World Cup at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
Skelhon, a gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, was made to work hard for the R3 10 metre air rifle prone mixed SH1 title, eventually seeing off the challenge of Veronika Vadovicova.
Vadovicova had claimed gold on the opening day but her score of 211.5 only proved good enough for silver, with Skelhon finishing just 0.3 ahead of the Slovakian shooter. France’s Didier Richard was third with 190.1.
The next World Cup is scheduled to take place in Szczecin, Poland, from April 17 to 21.
