Peterborough stock car drivers Kevin Shinn and Stuart Henderson will race at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena on Saturday (August 22) night bidding to become the 1300cc Stock Car European champion.
The major championship event has attracted a huge entry of the little stock cars that always provide action-packed races and plenty of hard-hitting bumper-to-bumper action is expected at the Saddlebow Road venue.
Shinn, who switched to the formula from Bangers only a year ago, said: “I’m looking forward to it.
“In the last big meeting at King’s Lynn, the British Championship last year, I think I lasted one lap! The whole pack was pushing me sideways down the track.”
Shinn went on to win his first race in the category the following week, and since then has not looked back.
He is currently placed fifth in the points championship, with four wins to his name in 2015.
“The first few meetings, I didn’t have the right set-up,” he said. “Then we were learning through other people and obviously we were getting it right because we were winning.
“We’re constantly changing stuff on the car. I’ve gone from an 8-valve engine to a 16-valve, which I had in the last meeting. That was the first time I’d tried it.”
With a field of more than 40 cars, including the likes of Bedford-based world champion Adam O’Dell, to contend with in the big race, staying in contention will be easier said than done.
“It’s surviving that first five laps of carnage, really,” Shinn added.
Completing the night’s programme, which starts at 6pm, will be the massively popular Micro Bangers in which Peterborough drivers Sam Harbour and Brett Jackson will be looking to entertain the big crowd. The Lady Bangers will also be in action.
