Local lad and Great Britain international rowe James Fox is ready to embark on his next World Championship adventure.

The former Jack Hunt pupil is the key part of a mixed Great Britain para-rowing crew that is currently preparing to take part in the ‘Worlds’ at Aiguebelette near Lyon, France at the end of August.

The Great Britain team go into the show-piece following a remarkable success at the World Cup in Italy where Fox and his crew managed to win gold and set new world best times in both their semi-final and final.

Fox said: “In preparation we are going to a training camp in Spain for a couple of weeks before heading to the event in the South of France.

“We have the same crew as we did for the 2015 World Cup and the World Championships last year, although many of us have just recovered from injury setbacks.

“We were very successful in the World Cup in Italy this year so I am really pleased with our form.”

The 23-year-old has had his preparations hampered by injury, but feels he is now fit and ready for the World Championship challenge.

He added: “I suffered a broken back in a car crash five years ago which still causes me pain, but more recently I had to have an injection for capsulitis though it is much better now.

“There are going to be a lot of unknowns in the World Championships this year because we believe that crews may be entering from Canada, Australia and America, all teams that we have never raced against before so we don’t know what to expect. However we are hoping we can replicate last year’s success when we won by five seconds.”

Beyond the World Championships Fox already has his eyes set on the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil

Fox said: “This year will definitely help prepare us for Rio. The World Championships are a stepping stone to the main goal. I’m not really getting excited for the Olympics yet because it seems so far away, although we are going over to Rio in September.”
