Talented local skier Lucy Blackwell from West Deeping has just won a national competition.

The eight year-old pupil at the Kirkstone House School at Baston won the Under 10 title at the Independent Schools Association Indoor Ski Championships at Hemel Hempstead’s Snow Centre.

Building on a successful 2014 race season, Lucy beat off opposition from some top British schools to take the gold medal.

Over 50 schools entered the event with more than 250 competitors taking part.

Lucy started skiing at the age of four locally at Tallington.

She still skis at Tallington, but to train more on snow she also travels to the SnowDome in Tamworth.

And whenever she can, she likes to spend time on the slopes in Levi, Finland.

Last year Lucy picked up the award for the season’s most improved ski racer from the Eastern Region Snowsports Association (ERSA).
