Five Peterborough City Rowing Club members were in action at the huge Veterans Head of the River race on the Thames between Mortlake and Putney on Saturday.

Steve Cranfield, Ian Palmer and RobertDennis were in a composite Masters B eight along with rowers from The Star Club from Bedford and they finished an excellent third from 11 Masters B crews.

They beat crews from France and Germany and recorded the 15th fastest time of the day.

And that was a good effort as the event attracted over 200 crews, including 40 international entries from around Europe and from America.

A composite Women’s Masters D eight containing Peterborough’s Hayley Marsters and Bridget Lloyd also came third in their category.

They were the 16th fastest women’s crew from 44 entrants.
