PACTRAC veteran Roger Canham has qualified for the 2015 World Half-Ironman Championships in Austria after a terrific win at the weekend.

He was one of three PACTRAC members to tackle the 70.3 Half-Ironman Triathlon in Staffordshire and won the 50-54 age group to win selection for the world championships in Zell Am See-Kaprun on August 30.

He completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13.1-mile run in 4:45:58.

Canham said: “I crossed the line pretty confident I was on the podium, but it wasn’t until a friend got the update from Ironmanlive that I knew I had won my first Ironman 70.3 event, and by nearly 20 minutes.

“That was brilliant as I had no real expectation of winning at this distance.”

PACTRAC results:

54 Roger Canham 4:45:58 (age group 1st); 131 Dave Patmore-Hill 5:02:24 (age group 15th); 197 Robin Brookes 5:11:25 (age group 5th).

PACTRAC-ers Sean Beard and Abi Schofield were age group winners at the Woodhall Spa Sprint Triathlon (400m swim, 15 miles bike, 3 miles run).

The event attracted 656 athletes and it was Beard’s first age group win.

Schoefield meanwhile will be representing GB in the European Championships in Geneva next month.

She is sponsored by Peterborough businesses KJS print to mail and St Petersburgh Restaurant.
