Crack city kick-boxing club Peterborough BCKA are on the championshop trail again.

Last year they won 19 medals at the World Championships in Portugal, 13 medals at the European Championships and over 20 medals at the British Championships.

They’re out to top that haul in 2015 and made an excellent start at the first of the British Championship finals.

At the WKC (World Karate & Kickboxing Council) British Championships in Manchester they won 14 medals and eight British titles and at the WAKO (World Allstyles Kickboxing Organisation) British Championships in Birmingham they picked up a further four medals.

All seven fighters from the Peterborough club who fought in Manchester picked up medals to gain automatic qualification for the 2015 WKC World Championships to be held in October in Portugal.

Chief instructor Andy Whitwell said: “As always I am very proud of their achievements. We’ve certainly made a great start to the major championship programme and I’m sure there’s much, much more to come from this talented and dedicated band of fighters.

“The next event for our England squad fighters is the Irish Open Championships this weekend in Dublin.

“This is considered to be the largest martial arts tournament in Europe with over 3,500 fighters expected to attend. Hopefully we can bring back more medals from that one as well.”

Freya Molloy and Jaden Harris each won two British titles in Manchester with the other four coming from Chelsea Munday, Eddy Paddock, Grant Brown and Courtney Brown.

Peterborough BCKA are now recruiting new members. Anybody interested in joining can contact Andy Whitwell (BCKA Senior Executive Instructor, 5th Dan Black Belt BCKA Kickboxing and 4th Degree Black Sash Lau Gar Kung Fu) on 07969 792286 or visit www.bcka-peterborough.co.uk
