Peterborough Saxons caused another upset in the British National League Division Two play-offs at the weekend.
Two weeks ago they travelled up to Glasgow and shocked National Conference Two North champions West Coast Trojans 28-26.
That earned them a semi-final trip to face National Conference Two West champions Manchester Titans and once again they were clear underdogs.
High-flying Manchester, unbeaten all season, were the number one seeds in the play-offs whereas Saxons were ranked sixth. A home win was the most likely outcome.
But super Saxons had other ideas and fought their way to a 24-18 win to reach next Saturday’s big final - dubbed the Daffodil Bowl - in Leeds.
There they’ll face Sandwell Steelers, another undefeated team, and they’ll once again be the rank outsiders.
Steelers twice overcame Saxons on their way to winning the National Conference Two South title race ahead of the city side but the way Saxons are playing at the moment, a third upset can’t be ruled out.
Kick-off is at noon and whatever happens, Saxons are now guaranteed promotion and will be performing in Division One next year.
Scott Spearink (2) and Bobby Amissah scored touchdowns against Manchester with Spearink kicking the rest of their points.
