Deeping, who started the day in second place and ended it in third, reduced their visitors to 110-6 before a lack of bowling depth and a failure to dismiss late order batsmen caught up with them.

Leaders Bracebridge escaped to post 278-8 in their 50 overs before Deeping replied with 220-8. Deeping are now 23 points adrift of top spot with just four games to go.

“Every time we have lost this season we have had the opposition in trouble at some stage,” Deeping skipper Dave Gillett moaned. “It was the same story against Bracebridge. We bowled beautifully early on, but we couldn’t finish them off.

“It didn’t help that we were without Meli Adatia (injured) and Lee Peacock (holiday), but it was still frustrating to get into a winning position and not see it through, especially against a side loaded with minor counties players and one first-class player.”

Paceman Ashley Fisher (4-67) returned his best bowling figures for Deeping, while off-spinner Zac Simmonds conceded just 31 runs from his 17 overs.

Many Deeping batsmen started well, but none went on to record the big score required to chase down such a formidable target. Gillett top scored with an unbeaten 44, while Ryan Hyman (40) and Dave Sargeant (31) also contributed well.
