They made the long trip up to Preston Grasshoppers and returned with nothing to show for their efforts. They lost 27-7 and remain firmly rooted to the foot of the table with just one win from 11 games.

Preston scored the first of their five tries after five minutes and led 17-0 at the interval. Nico Defeo scored and converted the Lions try.

Lions chairman Andy Moore said: “It was the same old story. We had 70 per cent of the possession but just couldn’t turn it into points.

“We only travelled with 19 players because of injuries but the pack battled well.

“But our game management left a lot to be desired and we made handling errors at crucial times.

“We are still not learning I’m afraid.

“It’s a big game next week at home to Macclesfield and we could do with lots of support.”
