RUSSELL Martin has replaced Craig Morgan as Posh first-team skipper.

RUSSELL Martin has replaced Craig Morgan as Posh first-team skipper.Martin, a full-back signed from Wycombe in the summer, made his captaincy debut in Saturday's League One win at MK Dons. Posh boss Darren Ferguson made the change because of Morgan's international commitments with Wales.

Ferguson said: "Craig was away for nine days with Wales recently and he is missing another match soon. I want a skipper who is around all the time and can play in all the games.

"It's not a criticism of the way Craig has handled the job at all, but as long as he holds his form, Russell will play in all the games.

"It was my decision to make the change and Craig is fine with it."

Morgan was only handed the captain's armband at the start of this season. Experienced midfielder Micah Hyde remains as club captain.

Morgan will miss the trip to Walsall on Saturday, October 11 because of international commitments. He was outstanding in Saturday's win at his old club MK Dons.

Gaby Zakuani could be absent at Walsall as well as his national side DR Congo have a World Cup fixture that weekend.

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis will probably be on England Under 21 duty the day before the Walsall match so should be available for Posh.
