More goals to come says overtime hero Billing

Billing provided the vital strike as the city side pipped Streatham 3-2 last Sunday to complete a four-point weekend in NIHL Division One South.

They have now reeled off five consecutive wins in all competitions, but Billing admitted the club’s forwards are keen to find the net more often.

Phantoms are averaging a smidgeon under three goals-per-game this season having scored 29 times in their 10 competitive outings.

Billing said: “Any four-point weekend is a good one in such a tight league with no easy games.

“We have a great group of guys who rally together when we’re in a tight spot and we feel we’re rolling now.

“The aim is start to taking a few more of the chances we create and that’s something which I’m sure will happen.

“We’d be a bit more worried if we weren’t making those opportunities so it’s just a case of continuing to work hard and hoping a few bounces go our way.

“We have a lot of talented guys who will stay patient and make sure they continue to do the right things.

“It helps that we have the best goalie in the league behind us, but we can’t always rely on him and it is up to us to put the puck in the net more often.”

Billing was part of the Phantoms squad who agonisingly missed out on honours last season when being pipped to the title, losing in the play-off final, going down in the semi-finals of the Final Four and bowing out of the Autumn Cup at the last four stage.

But the 21 year-old centre is confident of another strong bid for glory in the current campaign as he also looks to continue his progress on a personal level.

He added: “I wouldn’t be here if we weren’t pushing for silverware and I guarantee every other guy in the locker room feels the same.

“We want to challenge for every trophy and we go into every game believing we can win.

“I had a decent first season with the club and want to build on that. Slava (head coach, Koulikov) is giving me more responsibility and more big minutes so I want to repay him for that.”
