Peterborough Phabtoms made an almost perfect start to their English League play-offs defence last night (March 26).

The city men swept to a 4-1 success at Sheffield in the opening leg of a quarter-final showdown which is completed tonight (March 27) at Planet Ice (5.30pm).

Phantoms racked up a clean sweep of six victories against the Steeldogs during the regular season and that trend continued in the heat of play-off battle.

Much of the damage was done by a flurry of three goals in the opening session at iceSheffield.

Craig Scott punished a puck turnover to break the deadlock before Will Weldon and Marc Levers struck only 48 seconds apart.

Milan Baranyk added a fourth goal a quarter of the way through the second period to leave Phantoms in the driving seat.

Liam King did manage a reply for Sheffield in the final session, but it is Slava Koulikov’s men who are hot favourites to book their place at Coventry for finals weekend.
