Two female players from the Phantoms Academy have been selected for England squads.
Adelaide Hunt has made the final squad for the England Ladies Under 16 team while Izzy Wallace is in the squad for the adult international ladies team.
Both players fly out to Finland for a tournament against local teams and other national teams on August 23 until August 29.
The pair of them had to attend two trials in Sheffield and then successfully made their way through to a School of Excellence week-long training camp in Hull before finally being selected for the England teams.
Hunt, who played in defence for the league-winning Phantoms Academy Under 16 team last season, said: “I can’t wait to fly out to Finland with all the other ladies pulling on the England jersey and doing my best for my country against other ladies from across the world.
“It has been very tough to make it into the team but all the hard work and many miles travelling across the country will I’m sure all be worth it.”
Wallace, a netminder for Phantoms Academy Under 18s, will be joining up with the senior ladies team and said: “Playing with the boys at Under 18 level has really helped my game and has enabled me to be picked for the England ladies team.
“It will be hard in Finland against some very good ladies but I am looking forward to facing their shots.”
Both Hunt and Wallace will once again be pulling on a Phantoms Academy shirt next season in the Under 18 team and the Peterborough Phantoms Academy would like to encourage more female players join their club and start to play ice hockey.
