British forward Will Weldon has already completed five full seasons of English Premier League hockey for the city club, making 280 appearances in the process.

Now the improving 23 year-old, who produced his best-ever return of 40 points last term, has been tied down for another two campaigns.

Weldon said: “Peterborough feels like how now as I go into my sixth season with Phantoms.

“I have been given a great opportunity to sign on for two years which is good for me and also helps the club to build for the future.

“It is like a big family here and the fans are always excellent. Their passion and loyalty is amazing.”

Phantoms coach Slava Koulikov is delighted Weldon has signed a long-term deal.

He said: “Will had a great 2015/16 season and I am really happy he has agreed to stay on for the next two years.

“He is the type of player that every team needs being a great two-way centre man.

“He has proved he is capable of playing on any line and comes up with some big goals for the team.”

Phantoms have named teenage defenceman Callumn Medcalf as their first ‘prospect’ player for 2016/17.

The 17 year-old is a product of the club’s junior system and gained his first taste of EPL action in the final two games of the regular season back in March.

Medcalf will play full-time for the Islanders but will also be available should he be required by Phantoms.
