There’s a total of £30,000 up for grabs in the Lady Protectress Mares’ Chase at Huntingdon on Thursday (February 25) and that’s attracted the County Carlow trainer, who is sending his Cheltenham Festival entry Gitane Du Berlais to the meeting.

Gitane Du Berlais won at Naas Racecourse just a fortnight ago.

The Irishman is also probably tempted by racing conditions which are currently ‘soft’ across almost all the track – excellent ground for jumps horses.

Mullins ran horses for the first time ever at Huntingdon in December and admitted then that he’d only ever once visited the track as a spectator and that was 30 years ago.

Thursday is the latest high-class racing day at Huntingdon Racecourse this year and punters will be on the look-out for more clues to the races at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

Sian Williams, general manager at Huntingdon Racecourse, said: “We’re looking forward to a great day’s racing on Thursday and it is a delight once again to have visitors from Ireland who will of course receive a very warm Huntingdonshire welcome.”
