City of Peterborough Ladies have set up a likely title decider with local rivals Spalding this Saturday (March 14, Bretton Gate, 10am start),
City won their East Division Two North West fixture 2-0 at Cambridge Nomads on Saturday (March 9) and received more good news after the final whistle as leaders Spalding lost 2-1 at home to Long Sutton.
Both City and Spalding had already sealed promotion, but the teams meet this weekend with City one point ahead in the table, but having played one game more than Spalding. City only have one other fixture after Spalding so a win this Saturday should lead to them becoming champions.
Free of pressure, City played with great freedom and with a smile on their faces at Cambridge. Well led by skipper Lauren Finding they created numerous chances and won the game with two goals from evergreen striker Lyn Tancred.
Strike partner Tierney Augustine created the first goal and Finding set up the second 15 minutes from time.
Spalding hotshot Kelly Tuplin scored her side’s 100th goal of the league season, but it arrived too late as Long Sutton were already 2-0 ahead through goals from Leanne Woodhead and Emma Howell.
