City of Peterborough Ladies suffered an agonising defeat on penalty flicks in the quarter-finals of the National Womens’ Trophy at holders Alderley Edge yesterday (March 5).
The city stars travelled all the way to Cheshire to contest a match played in torrential rain. They performed well in a cracking match that finished 3-3 before losing the penalty shoot-out 4-3.
City twice led through player-of-the-match Anna Faux and Holly Finding, but then required an equaliser 10 minutes from time from Tierney Augustine to take the match to penalties.
