City of Peterborough Ladies found an experienced, well-drilled Canterbury a tough nut to crack in their East Premier Division game today (December 2).
The hosts earned several short corners in the opening 10 minutes and converted one of them. City goalkeeper Holly Riches made a few fine saves to keep her side in touch.
Canterbury dominated the rest of the half as City struggled to get their passing game going.
City improved after the break, but couldn’t break down a strong defence. Player-of-the-match Emma Faux almost rescued a point, but her shot hit the post as Canterbury sealed a 1-0 win.
City remain third, four points clear of fourth. This was just a third loss in 11 league matches this season.
City of Peterborough men travel to Cambridge University tomorrow (December 3) for a second round Tier One tie in the English Championships. Their scheduled Premier A Division game at home to Bedford was postponed because of their opponents’ indoor commitments.
