City of Peterborough moved into the top half of the East Premier A Division table thanks to a 4-2 win over Bedford at Bretton Gate on Saturday (March 14).
This was a satisfying win over a Bedford side that have been very competitive all season and meant a return of four points against them this year, compared to a single point last year.
Ben Read opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes with a good reverse stick follow up to City’s first short corner. Bedford were back on terms quickly, but captain and man-of-the-match Ross Booth put City back in front before the break.
City had made too many unforced errors to claim to be at their best in the first period, but they stepped up their game after the break and goals from Nathan Foad and Sam Anderson moved them clear and made a late Bedford goal nothing more than a consolation.
City lost just once at home this season - their first outing of the season against leaders current Wapping in September. They finish Premier A Division season at Cambridge City seconds on Saturday (March 21).
