HOCKEY: Seventh heaven for City of Peterborough

City dominated lowly Havering - a team they had lost to early in the season - from start to finish to record a thumping 7-0 success. The win keeps City in second place, a point behind leaders Wapping.

Havering are a team capable of giving City problems, but they were vlown away by a blistering start at Bretton Gate which saw two goals in the opening few minutes from Shane Vincent.

Following a below par performance by their own high standards the previous week, City had discussed getting the detail right in their approach play, and this paid off after only two minutes, when Ben Read’s decision-making was spot on, passing the ball to Shane Vincent when he could have shot, allowing Vincent to finish into the empty net.

Vincent was quickly onto the score sheet again, competing hard with the Havering defence for a loose ball, before finishing again from close range.

City have also found a range of workable short corner routines at last, and they grow in confidence from set plays with every week, and Joe Finding quickly added the third goal from one, to put the home side in a comfortable lead which they never looked like surrendering.

Ross Ambler added a fourth by half time, and City went into the second half determined not to let the standard of play slip, and delivered three more goals without reply, including great approach play from captain Ross Booth, with all forwards getting on the score sheet as Robbie Muir, and Jordan Heald finished clinically, before Adam Wilson provided the seventh courtesy of an unstoppable late short corner.
