History, and a half century, for Ramsey teenager in Cambridgeshire defeat
Ramnsey teenager Nikhil Gorantla has become the youngest player to represent Cambridgeshire in the Unicorns Championship.
The 15 year-old knocked Tom Westley out of the record books. Westley went on to play for Essex and England.
And Gorantla excelled with a first innings half century in a game that ended in a 105 run defeat to Suffolk at Saffron Walden. Peterborough Town’s Rob Sayer cracked 60 in that first innings to help Cambs to a 21-run lead which they failed to sustain despite 12 wickets in the match for left-arm spinner Jamie Sykes of Godmanchester.
Cambs have finished sixth in a 10-team Eastern Division. Lincolnshire, under the captaincy of Bourne wicket-keeper Carl Wilson, finished top.
Suffolk 232 (J. Mickleburgh 78, J. Sykes 7-82, R. Sayer 2-98) & 290 (J. Sykes 5-124, R. Sayer 2-47).
Cambs 253 (R. Sayer 60, N. Gorantia 53) & 163 (E. Ballard 75, J. Sykes 24, N. Gorantla 20).
