Stuart Brown has moved back into the contention for a place in the end of season PGA Play-offs in Turkey.
The Thorpe Wood professional picked up 155 points by finishing eighth in the sixth of seven Order of Merit tournaments - the East Anglian Open at Basildon - this week.
That has moved him up to third in the Order of Merit standings on 842 points and it’s the top three that qualify for the big £25,000 play-off final in Turkey in November.
Brown is only 14 points behind second-placed David Salisbury from the Three Rivers Golf & Country Club and a commanding 33 points in front of fourth-placed James Ruebotham from Welwyn Garden City Golf Club.
The final Order of Merit tournament is at Rayleigh Golf Club on September 23 and 24.
Brown finished with a three-under-par total of 141 at Basildon - six shots off the top of the leaderboard.
But it could have been so much better. Brown was lying second after the first round with a superb 69 and a birdie blast early in the second round put him well in contention for overall glory as he picked up shots on the third, fifth and sixth.
The back nine wasn’t so hot. He double bogeyed the 11th and dropped further shots at the 13th, 14th and 15th. He did finish with two birdies but the damage had been done.
Brown gave himself a confidence boost ahead of the PGA East Anglian Open with a four-shot victory in the Chelmsford GC Charity Pro-Am.
Brown was two-under at the turn, collecting three birdies against one dropped shot on the outward nine.
He got to three-under with a birdie four at the long 11th and then parred his way home to clinch his third individual win on the 2015 East Region schedule.
Ellie Haughton beat Kay Ropson 4 and 3 in the ladies singles on knockout finals day at Greetham on Sunday.
Peter Wood and John Morfee beat Andrew Bass and David Pritchett at the second extra hole in the men’s pairs final while mixed doubles holders Jackie Friend and Ryan Tarrant just prevailed over Radley Wardhaugh and Pat Jamieson .
