Top city golfer Stuart Brown has had a cracking week on the East PGA circuit.

He maintained his push for a place in the season-ending PGA play-offs in Turkey by finishing fifth in an East PGA Order of Merit event and then followed that up with a second and a third place in two pro-am tournaments.

Although unable to match his win in the second Order of Merit tournament last month, Brown claimed fifth spot and a very useful 160 points in the third of the seven qualifying tournaments at Buntingford.

Rounds of 69 and 72 saw him finish seven shots off the lead in the Weston Homes PLC/East Herts Classic, which was won by Patrick Spraggs from Woodbridge Golf Club with two 67s.

Darren Charlton (Dunstable Downs) has taken over from Brown at the top of the Order of Merit after finishing tied-third alongside David Salisbury (Three Rivers).

But Thorpe Wood professional Brown is a close second and there are four more order of merit tournaments remaining. The top three qualify for the big finale in Turkey which offers a first prize of £15,000 and a place in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth next year for the top 10.

Brown then played in the East Herts Charity Pro-Am at Buntingford and turned in a sparkling four-under par 67 for third place. His round included 14 pars and four birdies and earned him a cheque for £510.

The winner was Ian Ellis from Great Yarmouth with a 65 followed by David Salisbury from Three Rivers with a 66.

Next up was the West Essex Pro-Am at Sewardstonebury and Brown fared even better here, claiming the runners-up prize of £1,250 with a two-under 69. His round included five birdies and three bogeys and the winner with a 67 was Reece Phillips from West Essex.
