In Saturday’s qualifier on the Magpie Lake those taking part had a fantastic match with 14 weights over 100lb recorded.

Winner with a stunning 217lb 11oz was city rod Steve Freeman from peg 17.

Runner-up was Tony Dawson from peg 34 with 205lb and Gavin Butler was third on 194lb 8oz.

In the Thursday qualifying open on the same pool Graham Welton continued his excellent run of form winning with 128lb 6oz.

Second was Kevin Shellie with 106lb followed by Vinny Easy on 102lb 14oz.

OVER 60s

In the Wednesday Over 60s open on Jay Lake, Ramsey stalwart Keith Rayment took a comfortable victory with 149lb 2oz followed by Ray Pullman (111lb 2oz) and Pete Holland (97lb 10oz).

Another local rod in fine form is Mac Campbell of Fenland Rods.

On Sunday he drew the fancied golden peg 15 at Frasers, Ely, and comfortably won the match with a level 85lb taken on the pole with meat and maggot.

Runner-up was Tony Nesbitt (48lb 8oz) and third Paul Smith (44lb 4oz).
