The first spades were plunged into the ground on Monday (November 23) and this marked a significant milestone in the club’s progress after their previous clubhouse was closed in October last year.

The Parkway Sports & Leisure Club on Lincoln Road, New England has stood for more than 80 years but has now been sold off and is set to be turned into a car park for the nearby Thistlemoor Medical Centre.

In March, the club submitted plans for a new 20m x 12m clubhouse to be built on the site of their Eaglesthorpe pitch and these plans include provisions for a bar, TV, pool table, directors lounge, kitchen and toilet facilities.

The club are also installing a Hollywood style walk of fame approach to the clubhouse which will include the name of any person or business that donated £1000 or more.

After securing funding from the Football Foundation, as well as crowdfunding from fans and receiving planning permission work has begun, with the aim of having the clubhouse up and running this season.

The club, who have been working closely with Sports Ground Development Ltd, also hope to push ahead with plans for a new hospitality suite, TV gantry, changing facilities, medical room and additional grandstand seating. This would ensure the club’s Bee Arena meets the required standards to play at step 2 of non-league football should they achieve promotion.

A statement on the club’s Twitter account read: “This is fantastic news for everyone related to Peterborough Sports. The build on our new clubhouse starts on Monday and this is a really big deal for our club.

“It will fill a massive hole that has been evident since we lost the old building.”

The club received more good news this month when they won a battle against Parking Eye which saw hundreds of parking tickets given out to fans attending matches this season rescinded.

The club are set to resume competitive action after lockdown with a trip to Rushden and Diamonds in the FA Trophy on December 8 but this is subject to final confirmation.
