The Arthur Mellows goalscorers were Jess Camwell (2), Shelley Broadway, Jess Broadway and Megan Mapleston with Zoe Bateman chosen as player-of-the-match for AMVC.

The final was for Year 7 and 8 pupils and whereas St Ivo was predominantly a Year 8 side, Arthur Mellows had just one player from year 8 and the rest were from Year 7.

“We have a very young squad and we are very proud of our team,” said the team’s teacher Louise Richardson

“We fought hard and were winning 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 during the match and then fought back to level at 4-4 and 5-5 to take the game into extra-time, keeping strong right up to the final whistle.

“We were unfortunately beaten narrowly on penalties but can look back on a good season.”

The team won the Peterborough United Schools Tournament in November and went on to represent Peterborough United in the Girls South of England 6-a-side Area Finals in Stevenage. The opposition included teams from Ipswich, Wycombe Wanderers, Wimbledon and Barnet and they finished runners-up in the final to Cambridge United.

The Arthur Mellows team was: Jess Camwell, Jess Broadway, Shelley Broadway, Ava Osker, Maddison Moore, Sophie Ellen, Lara Hunnybun, Ruby Mathias, Lucy Rowe, Zoe Bateman, Megan Mapleston, Lauren Mapleston and Grace Sipson.
