ROUND-UP: Super Sports need a point, four in a row for Deeping, Holbeach and Yaxley, Wisbech win, Star stroll, Spalding suffer

Medwynter rescued a below par display by the league leaders by scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 victory at Leicester Nirvana.

Stuart Eason and Josh Moreman also scored.

Sports will formally win the title if they avoid defeat at Desborough next Saturday (April 8).

Deeping Rangers have ensured the long-time title favourites kept their eye on the ball during the run-in.

Deeping are clear in second place, albeit 12 points behind Sports with just four matches to go, after a 4-0 win at Rothwell Corinthians yesterday.

Deeping beat the same opposition 6-0 at home last weekend when Scott Coupland and Tom Waumsley both scored twice.

They did the same yesterday with Coupland striking twice from the spot.

Yaxley maintained third place with a hard fought 2-1 win over Sileby Rangers at In2itive Park. Phil Stebbing scored both goals for the Cuckoos who, like Deeping, were winning for the fourth game in a row.

“We were ever quite at our best,” Yaxley manager Brett Whaley admitted. “But that was probably to be expected after two weeks off. Winning was most important and it keeps our run going.”

Holbeach United also made it four wins in a row and theirs was a particularly impressive success yesterday as it arrived at the home of highly-rated Eynesbury.

Eynesbury had won their previous home match 12-0, but the Tigers roared to a 3-0 win thanks to two goals from Charlie Sanders and another from Spencer Tinkler.

Holbeach even brushed aside a straight red card for Stacy Cartwright for serious foul play in the first half when it was 2-0. Sanders completed the scoring from the penalty spot for the 10 men after the break.

Holbeach are seventh, one place and two points ahead of Wisbech Town who were 3-2 winners over Newport Pagnell at Fenland Stadium.

Michael Frew scored twice for Wisbech with the winner arriving in the 91st minute, seven minutes after a Pagnell equaliser.

Peterborough Northern Star remain in mid-table despite a comfortable 3-0 win at struggling Harrowby. Jake Sansby, Matthew Barber and Jake Mason scored for the city side in the second half.

Blackstones were twice behind at home to Rushden & Higham in Division One, but two Danny Barker goals rescued a point for the team in 14th.

Spalding United’s play-off hopes in Division One South of the Evo Stik Northern Premier Division were damaged on a bad all-round day at Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Hotshot Leon Mattem missed a penalty at 1-0 down before Tulips’ Kern Miller was dismissed soon after the second goal.

Most of third-placed Spalding’s play-off rivals won, but they still have a seven-point buffer to those chasing a top five spot.

Stamford AFC stayed in 15th place after a 3-1 defeat at Leek Town. Grant Ryan briefly gave the Daniels hope by making it 2-1 just before the hour mark.
