ROUND-UP: Heron and Jackson are Whittlesey heroes in tense cup win, Netherton love Valentine, leaders march on
Matt Heron and Anthony Jackson were the heroes as Whittlesey Athletic moved into the quarter finals of the PFA Senior Cup after a tense penalty shoot out win over Stamford Lions on Saturday (December 16).
Heron scored twice, including a late equaliser to force the second round tie into penalties. Goalkeeper Jackson then saved two Lions’ spot-kicks as Whittlesey won the shootout 3-1.
Lions had fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 with goals from Shaun Sanderson, Joseph Lippett and Rob Forster. Evergreen Kevin Gilbert also scored for Whittlesey.
Those Peterborough Premier Division title contenders in action on Saturday all picked up three points. Leaders Moulton Harrox saw off a strong challenge from ICA Sports to record a 3-1 win, while Netherton United despatched Warboys Town 6-0 at the Grange. Reigning champions Peterborough Sports Reserves fielded a very young side and beat AFC Stanground 2-0 with goals from Dylan Kilford and Ayman Trabelsi.
