Brotherhood Sports were the team to suffer as Windle, the main main for referee instruction in the area, despatched player-manager Chris Barnes, midfielder Gareth Jones and striker Michael Uff as they slipped to a 4-2 defeat Peterborough Division Three rivals at FC Peterborough.

Uff walked in the first half after collecting two yellow cards for dissent and he was followed after the break by Jones, who collected yellows for a foul and for dissent, and Barnes who was sent off for foul and abusive langauge.

“It was disappointing all-round,” Barnes admitted. “Referees have a tough job and this was a fast-paced game with quick players on both sides so it was tough for for Robert to keep up with play.

“The result could turn out to be a blessing though as we have 16 league games to fit into 10 weeks and that’s a more important competition for us.”

Brotherhood Sports actually scored twice with eight men with Colin Hopper’s 40-yard free kick the pick of the goals.

Thorney opened the scoring after 70 seconds through Sam Donohoe and were adamant they should have had a penalty for a handball on the goal-line soon afterwards. If spotted by referee Zed Bashir it would have led to a red card.

Sam Raynor made it 2-1 to Thorney in the second-half, but Sports applied relentless pressure to turn the game on its head. They won the game with two goals in the final three minutes. Sports’ scorers were Jack Barron (2), Andy Boome and Karl Gibbs.

ICA Sports continued their good form as Josh Smith scored twice in a 4-0 win at Sawtry. Conor Pridmore and Dave Kilby also scored for a team who have won six league games in a row.
