A wonder goal from Erhun Oztumer was the highlight of a 4-2 win for Peterborough United’s Development XI against Gillingham today (April 21).
Oztumer picked the ball up in the centre circle, strode forward and lobbed the visiting goalkeeper from fully 30 yards.
It capped a fine second-half display from the Posh side who had been held 0-0 until half-time at the Nene Park Academy.
Oztumer and Jonathan Edwards both came close to opening the scoring in the first-half and it was the latter who gave Posh the lead soon after the re-start when latching onto an opportunity created by gifted teenager Leo De-Silva Lopes.
Oztumer’s stunning strike made it 2-0 and two further goals arrived courtesy of a young triallist after Gillingham had pulled a goal back. The triallist was a substitute called into the squad as Posh rested a few under 18 players ahead of their match against Northampton at the ABAX Stadium tomorrow (April 22, 1pm kick-off).
The anonymous newcomer took good advantage of his situation. Edwards, who made his first-team debut in the League One draw at Barnsley last Saturday (April 18), could have added two further goals before Gillingham completed the scoring late on
