Peterborough United have today (January 28) completed the transfer of striker Conor Washington from Newport.

The 21 year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year contract. He will be in the squad for tomorrow’s League One trip to Sheffield United.

Washington scored seven goals for Newport this season. He scored over 60 goals for St Ives of the United Counties League in 60 appearances.

Striker Shaun Jeffers has joined Newport as part of the same transfer.

Manager Darren Ferguson said: ‘Conor is a player that has good pace, he can play on the shoulder and I think we needed that variation. Britt Assombalonga can run in behind, but Nicky Ajose and Lee Tomlin, and to a certain extent, Kyle Vassell like to drop off the front man so Conor gives us that different option.

Washington will wear the number 24. The transfer fee will remain undisclosed, but reports in Newport suggest the fee has broken their club record of £150,000.

Adds on and a sell-in clause could take the fee beyond £500,000.
