LOAN star Tom Kennedy is out to pick up from where he left off.

The Leicester City left-back is thrilled to be back at London Road for a second successive season after agreeing a three-month loan switch yesterday.

Kennedy made 14 appearances for Posh in the second half of last season before a loan stay was cut short by a serious knee injury.

Now the 26 year-old goes straight into Darren Ferguson’s squad for this afternoon’s home Championship assignment against Doncaster Rovers (3pm kick-off).

Kennedy said: “I kept in contact with Darren and other people here during the summer and I always wanted to come back, but my recovery from injury dragged on as it was more serious than first thought.

“I always hoped the opportunity to return would come about and I’m delighted it has arisen now. I spoke to Darren about a week ago but I only found out it was happening when I was driving on the motorway on Thursday.

“I’ve been back training fully for six weeks now and had a few reserve games at Leicester. It hasn’t worked out for me there so I’m really pleased to be here again and I’d definitely like to stay permanently.

“Last season things were starting to go well for me when I got the injury so hopefully I can pick up from where I left off when I was here last season. My first job is to try and get myself into the team.

“If I’m needed today I’m ready, but the international break then gives me time to build my fitness up, train hard and get to know the lads again.

“Peterborough’s good start to the season will have shocked a lot of people because they were being tipped to struggle, but I know that everyone here has faith in each other.

“To be up in the top half of the table is a fantastic achievement and long may it continue.”

Posh boss Ferguson moved for Kennedy after the loan spell of Chelsea full-back Ben Gordon was cut short.

The club have plenty of competition at left-back with summer signing Craig Alcock impressing after ousting Grant Basey from the position.

Ferguson said: “Tom did brilliantly for us last season until being injured and it’s brilliant to be able to bring him back.”
