Peterborough United have today (March 26) made three signings ahead of the 5pm transfer deadline.
Striker Luke Williams has joined from Middlesbrough and defenders James Pearson and Alan Sheehan from Leicester City and Bradford City respectively. All are loan deals until the end of the season.
Williams (21) and Pearson (22) will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s clash with Coventry City at the ABAX Stadium.
Williams enjoyed loan spells last year with Scunthorpe United and Hartlepool United, netting four goals in 12 appearances and has also spent time with Coventry City this year.
He is an England Under 20 international and has scored twice in four games for his country at that level.
Manager Dave Robertson said: “Luke is an excellent addition to our strikeforce. He offers us something different. We spoke to Lee Tomlin and he gave us a glowing reference about Luke and his potential.
“Luke can play as a number nine or as a number 10 so he gives us some diversity in the way we play. It gives us an extra dimension and we are delighted to have him on board.
Right-back Pearson has enjoyed loan spells with Carlisle United and Wrexham and will provide competition in the full-back areas between now and the end of the campaign.
He is the son of Leicester City manager Nigel and made his Foxes debut in the League Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town.
Robertson added: “James is a player who can cover us in defensive areas. He has had a good run of form in the Leicester City Under 21 side and comes highly recommended so we are looking forward to working with him.”
Sheehan (28) is an experienced defender with over 200 league appearances to his name and was in the Bantams side that were beaten in the FA Cup quarter-final by Championship side Reading last weekend.
Sheehan will provide competition for places in the full-back areas and also brings excellent set-piece quality. The left-footed player has also shown his versatility by playing in other positions during his career.
Robertson was pleased to have him on board for the run-in adding: “Alan became available and is an excellent addition to our squad for the rest of this season. He can operate at left-back and I felt we needed strengthening in the full-back positions because we had no natural replacements in that area should injuries occur.”
The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international started his career at Leicester City and has also played for Leeds United, Swindon Town and Notts County. He played against Posh for the Magpies last term.
Heading out of the ABAX Stadium today was Kyle Vassell. He has joined Sky Bet League Two side Oxford United on loan until the end of the season.
The front man will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s fixture against Carlisle United.
Vassell joined Posh from Bishops Stortford and has spent time on the sidelines this season due to injury.
