Peterborough United have handed a two-and-a-half year professional contract to a player described as ‘the most talented 16 year-old since George Best’.

Attacking midfielder Leo Da Silva Lopes put pen to paper after turning 17 yesterday (November 30).

He made his first-team debut at the age of 16 in a 4-3 home win against Crawley last April, one of three first-team appearances he has made.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “Leo is the most talented 16-year-old I have seen since George Best and I expect big things from him so I am delighted that he has signed his pro deal with us here at Peterborough United.”
