Peterborough United striker Joe Gormley faces a year on the sidelines after picking up a serious knee injury.
Gormley snapped the cruciate ligaments in his left knee during last week’s reserve team friendly at Norwich City. He went for a scan yesterday (September 28) and received the bad news.
Posh centre-back Jack Baldwin suffered a similar injury and has not played since November 1, 2014. He is expected to return to first-team action soon.
It’s been an unhappy couple of months for Gormley (25) who arrived at Posh with a formidable goal-scoring record in Northern Irish football with Cliftonville.
He has so far failed to transfer that form to the Football League. Gormley has started five matches for Posh, but has yet to register his first goal.
