Even the Peterborough United second string has caught the club’s goal-crazy habit.
The senior side are the leading scorers in League One with 30 goals in 15 matches after smashing four past Doncaster last weekend (October 24).
And today (October 27) Posh reserves crushed MK Dons 6-1 in Milton Keynes in front of first team boss Graham Westley.
Striker Kyle Vassell and midfielders Andrew Fox and Kieran Sadlier scored as Posh led 3-1 at half-time. Fox, who played as a left back, scored direct from a 25-yard free kick.
Vassell was soon on target in the second-half to make it 4-1 before Harry Anderson and Fox, with a back post header, completed the scoring.
Central defender Jack Baldwin played the first 45 minutes as he continued his recovery from injury. It will be a year to the day on Sunday (November 1) when he damaged cruciate ligaments playing for Posh against Scunthorpe at the ABAX Stadium.
Westley said: “There were some very good displays against an MK Dons side with some good players in it. Andrew Fox has worked hard in training and he deserved his first team debut at the weekend. He takes a very good free kick.
“Kyle Vassell took his goals well, Harry Anderson played with great energy, Jack Collison led the side and kept the ball ticking over in midfield and Grant McCann was raving about the performance of Toby Adebayo-Rowling at right back.
“It was also good to get some minutes into Jack Baldwin. He did well defensively as did Alex Davey. We have very good strength in depth.”
Posh are still assessing the fitness of central defender Gaby Zakuani ahead of Saturday’s (October 31) League One trip to Coventry. Zakuani has a muscle injury and limped out of last Saturday’s 4-0 win over Doncaster after just 16 minutes. That was his seventh match in 21 days.
Michael Bostwick filled in for Zakuani superbly against Doncaster, but on-loan Chelsea defender Alex Davey would also be in contention to start at Coventry after overcoming a niggle.
Posh midfielder Harry Beautyman didn’t play today. He is training with the first team squad as he works his way up to full fitness.
