Posh will be looking to build on Tuesday night’s success over Crawley Town in the Capital One Cup when they entertain Colchester United in Sky Bet League One tomorrow (August 15).
The U’s drew 2-2 with Blackpool on the opening day and followed it up with a 1-0 defeat to Championship side Reading in the Capital One Cup with the visitors scoring the winner through Chris Gunter in extra-time.
Goalkeeper Sam Walker could be out for the rest of the season after suffering suspected cruciate ligament damage. The 23-year-old, who sustained a knee injury last season, was carried off on a stretcher during Tuesday’s defeat by the Royals.
Posh could welcome back defender Michael Smith from a back problem leaving central defender Jack Baldwin as the only absentee for manager Dave Robertson.
Robertson said: “Colchester manager Tony Humes used to be the Academy manager like myself so we have come up against each other quite a few times during the last few seasons.
“He did well to keep Colchester in League One last season and they have added to their youthful squad with a bit of experience.
“They have brought a lot of young players through their Academy system and we know what to expect. We are at home and we want to continue to make the ABAX Stadium a fortress.
“We have only lost once during our tenure in charge and we want that record to continue.”
Posh have met Colchester six times in the last two seasons with an FA Cup and Capital One Cup meeting in the schedule. In the league meeting between the two sides at the ABAX Stadium last season, Posh were beaten 2-0.
