Updated, 3 July: Manchester City youngster Adam Drury has emerged as the right-back Peterborough United are trying to sign on loan for the rest of the season.
Peterborough United today (July 1) confirmed that the 20-year-old is training with the club with a view to signing a year-long deal.
Drury (20) was on loan at Burton Albion last season when he helped ‘The Brewers’ to the League Two play-offs.
England youth international Drury joined City from Grimsby in 2011 and has het to make a first-team appearance for the Premier League champions.
Posh require a right-back as last season’s first-choice Mark Little has moved to League One rivals Bristol City and Craig Alcock has yet to sign the new contract offered by the club last week.
Left-back Adam Drury played 176 times for Posh between 1995 and 2001.
If Posh boss Darren Ferguson likes the look of Drury he would move to London Road on a season-long loan.
Ferguson is not optimistic that Alcock, who has reportedly been talking to two Championship clubs, will return to Posh.
Alcock made 112 appearances in three seasons at Posh.
Posh director football Barry Fry said: “We were at first optimistic that Craig would re-sign for us, but if he really is talking to a couple of Championship clubs we would not be able to compete financially.
“I think his partner is also keen on a move to a different area of the country.”
Midfielder Danny Swanson, another player to turn down the offer of a fresh Posh contract at the end of last season, is expected to join League One side Coventry City.
If Posh had won promotion to the Championship last season, Swanson would have received a significant increase in salary.
