Peterborough United manager Graham Westley believes League One is about to get a lot tougher for his side.

But the Posh boss is convinced his players will cope with the burden of being classed as leading promotion contenders.

Posh have the best current form of any team in League One over the last 10 matches. Westley’s men have collected 22 points in that time to move into the play-off places for the first time this season.

Bookmakers have responded by slashing the Posh odds for promotion. They are just 7/2 with Football League sponsors Sky Bet to be playing Championship football next season

But Westley believes his side’s superb form will make opponents more determined to bring Posh down to earth.

“Statistically we have been the best team in League One over the last two months,” Westley stated. “That’s great from our point of view, but we need to be extra vigilant now because teams love to beat the best.

“We are there to be shot at, but there are two ways teams will react to being a target.

“There are teams that will buckle under pressure and there are teams that will thrive under pressure. I am confident we will be a team that thrives.

“We showed what we are all about at Scunthorpe last weekend, but we must keep improving.

“If we stand still we will be overtaken.”

Last weekend’s drubbing of Scunthorpe, thanks partly to a hat-trick from Conor Washington, lifted Posh into sixth place.

Posh take a break from League One action to host Luton in a second round FA Cup tie at the ABAX Stadium on Sunday (December 6, 2pm).

Posh fans are reminded this match is all-ticket. More than 6,500 (1,800 to Luton fans) have been sold already.

The Posh Box Office is open for ticket sales between 10am-3pm on Saturday. Tickets are also available online at and by phone to Ticketmaster 0844 847 1934.

Adult tickets cost £15, senior citizens over 60 and 18-21-year-olds cost £10 with under 18s admitted for just £5.
