Table-topping Peterborough United’s players are determined to put on a scintillating show for their home fans this Saturday (September 29).

Victory at Gillingham last Saturday made it five wins from five away matches for Posh, but they’ve laboured in their last two League One matches at the ABAX Stadium.

They were lucky to draw 1-1 with Grant McCann’s Doncaster before losing 2-1 to promotion rivals Portsmouth. Blackpool, who haven’t conceded a goal in their four League One away games so far this season, are the visitors this weekend.

Top scorer Matt Godden has revealed in an interview with the club’s PUTV service how keen the players are to turn their ABAX form around.

“Our support has been brilliant all season,” Godden stated. “The fans are excellent at home and away from home they’ve been different class. We could hear them all game at Gillingham last weekend even though most of them were sitting in the rain.

“It was pleasing to be able to reward them with a big win, but now we want to do the same for the home fans.

“Teams set up differently against us at our place. They sit in and try and make it as difficult as they possibly can. That’s understandable and also everyone likes to beat the team at the top of the table, but we are determined to put on a performance this Saturday for our fans. They deserve that and we need to provide it.

“We will certainly start in a confident mood. We are close to delivering a complete performance. The one at Plymouth (5-1) was the closest we’ve come, but we were very good again for most of the game at Gillingham.

“They had a spell at the start of the second-half when they scored twice and took the lead, but I always felt we would get back into the game. And when Siriki Dembele equalised I was sure we would go on and win.

“It’s good to see other players scoring. The gaffer is always emphasising that it’s a squad game and he pointed to the contributions of Ivan Toney and Callum Cooke in recent games as proof.

“Ivan scored a brilliant goal at Gillingham. I was screaming at him to take a touch, but he ignored me and planted the ball into the top corner.

“It’s a different role for me when Ivan plays. He takes the weight off my shoulders as far as winning headers is concerned. I can play off him.”

Godden is the top scorer in League One alongside Sunderland’s Josh Maja with seven goals. Godden has eight goals this season in total.
