Peterborough United’s new recruit Kieran Sadlier is ‘buzzing’ to have signed for Posh following a successful trial period.
Sadlier arrived at the club on recomendation of former West Ham teammate Jack Collison and after impressing during a two-week trial signed a contract yesterday (20 July).
Sadlier said: “I knew Jack Colison when I came into the club from our time together at West Ham. He let ‘Robbo’ know of me and helped me to secure a trial to see how things went, so I owe a lot of credit to Jack for getting me here.”
The 20-year-old has played out the majority of his career for ‘the Hammers’ but decided to leave London last February and head north to play for Scottish Premiership side St Mirren. A spell that saw him make 11 apperances and score one goal. He said; “ I went to Scotland to play for St Mirren and did really well up there. I thought long and hard about returning this season, but it was difficult being so far away from my family. I decided to take a gamble to come here on trial and thankfully it has paid off.”
The Republic of Ireland Under 21 international predominatly plays on the wing and has plenty of pace on offer, espically after training with Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson at St George’s Park in January.
He said; “Left wing is my main position, but I have played in a more central role since arriving at the club which is the position that I played in Scotland. I started playing my youth football at Cambridge until they shut the Centre of Excellence so moved to play at West Ham. It was sad to leave West Ham this year but it is something that I had to do in order to further my career.
“The main target for me this season is to break into the first team and help the side win promotion.”
