On-loan striker Craig Mackail-Smith has today (December 23) been recalled by Brighton and will miss Peterborough United’s Christmas fixtures
The 30 year-old striker was due to stay at the ABAX Stadium until after the December 28 League One game with Doncaster Rovers.
But Brighton caretaker-manager Nathan Jones has seized the opportunity under loan regulations to recall Mackail-Smith after 28 days of his loan.
Mackail-Smith will officially leave on Christmas Day and is likely to be on the bench for Brighton against Reading at the Amex on Boxing Day, when Jones takes charge of the team following the resignation yesterday of first-team boss Sami Hyypia.
Mackail-Smith made three appearances back on loan at Posh without adding to the 99 goals he scored for the club between 2007-11.
The enthusiastic 30-year-old, sidelined for most of last season by Achilles and ankle problems, struggled for game time under Hyypia.
