THe Peterborough United squad were straight into training after an overnight flight to Ireland (July 12).

Manager Dave Robertson has set his plans out for a week’s training at the luxury Carton House in County Kildare. He insists they couldn’t have a better base in which to continue preparations for the new League One season which starts on August 8,

“It’s a fantastic facility,” Robertson stated. “The Irish rugby team are coming here soon to prepare for the World Cup which shows you how highly it’s regarded as a venue.

“We will be working hard though, We had a long day yesterday after flying in. We had a bit of rest, then a team meeting to explain just what we expect this week and then we got to it.

“The lads have been outstanding so far, both in training and in the two matches we have played. Obviously there are things we must work on, but I’m very happy with where we are as a squad.”

Posh travel to Belfast to play Cliftonville in a friendly on Wednesday (July 15). That’s new Posh striker Joe Gormley’s former club.

Posh then host a Spurs XI at the ABAX Stadium on Saturday (July 18).

Kieran Sadlier and Andrew Fox are believed to be the two triallists who have travelled with the squad to Ireland.

Posh are expected to unveil a new permanent signing this week. It’s also thought a couple of transfer listed players will leave the club.
