Posh manager Davd Robertson insists the 2015-16 League One promotion race will be wide open

Posh are currently 10-1 joint second favourites with Sheffield United to win the title behind newly-relegated Wigan (5-1) with Football League sponsors Sky Bet.

Robertson, speaking after Posh were handed an away game at Rochdale to start the season, said: “There doesn’t seem to be a stand-out team like Bristol City this season. There doesn’t appear to be a club making obvious big-money signings so I really think this could be a wide open promotion race.

“There will still be plenty of clubs fancying their chances and we will be one of them.

“Our 100% aim is to win promotion this season and we think we can do it.”

Robertson believes one more permanent signing and a couple of season-long loans will give him a formidable squad.

For the second season running Posh face an opening day trip to Spotland to tackle Rochdale.

Robertson said: “It’s a tough start at Rochdale, but it should be a good game against a good team.

“Three home games in the first month is good as well because we are determined to make a flying start and deliver a statement of intent to the rest of the league.

“We have meticulous plans in place for pre-season and all of them are geared to hitting the ground running when the League One season starts.”

Posh won 1-0 on the opening day of the 2014-15 League One season at Rochdale thanks to a second-half goal from Kyle Vassell.
